
Civil War Swords - M1832 Artillery Short Sword
As all swords used during the Civil War, they were more effective during the early years of the war and as new modern weapons such as breech-loaders, repeating rifles and machine guns were introduced the sword became less effective and could only be used in close battles.
The M1832 Civil War (Roman Style) Artillery Sword, early issue made with a brass hilt and cross guard with embossed eagle on pommel. It had a carbon steel blade that was blood grooved and came with a leather scabbard. The sword could have "Sword is marked " United States 1833 " and also marked from the Ames MFG Co.
